Not long after lo-fi folk duo Dutchess & The Duke broke up in the latter part of last year, Jesse Lortz decided to go out on his own and record under the name Case Studies. On his debut effort The World Is Just A Shape To Fill The Night, the Seattle-based musician offers another impressive batch of sincere, stripped-down folks songs. Recorded with some close friends in a secluded cabin in Sequim, Wash, the record’s 11 songs resonate with a similar blend of close intimacy and isolated warmth.
